Are your Fire Doors safe?

Stop the spread of fire in your premises with a fire door assessment

It’s a fact that 76% of the fire doors inspected in the UK in 2019 were condemned as not fit for purpose. There are often various reasons for this especially where large numbers of people and use are involved. Care homes are a case in point.

Fire doors have two important functions in a fire; when closed they form a barrier to stop the spread of fire and when opened they provide a means of escape. Compartmentalised buildings linked by fire doors allow the flow of traffic around the building and delay the spread of fire from one area to another. Every fire door is therefore required to act as a barrier to the passage of smoke and/or fire to varying degrees, depending upon its location and the fire hazards associated with that building.

How Fire Safety Sussex can help

We have completed the latest training and  use the best technology and equipment to carry out thorough assessments. This involves testing the complete fire door sets: i.e. the fire door and doorframe with all the requisite hardware (intumescent strips and smoke seals, door closers, locks, latches, hinges).

Having a detailed test completed will ensure that the spread of fire and smoke will be stopped, protecting the building and any staff or anyone living or visiting there. The tests are also a vital part to any insurance claims.

David Batchelor of Fire Safety Sussex says:

The vast majority of fire doors do not meet the current standards, do not operate as designed or intended and are most likely to fail at the very time they are needed. Fire doors and shutters provide a vital (property and lifesaving) function. To ignore their importance is putting lives at risk.

Save your premises, staff and dignity by ensuring your fire doors are safe.
